International Monetary Fund: China will continue to promote global economic growth in the next few years

2023-04-07
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) predicts that as the world recovers from an epidemic that killed 2.9 million people, China will continue to promote global economic growth in the next few years.
Forecasts issued by the International Monetary Fund on Tuesday show that China will contribute more than one-fifth of global GDP growth in the five years to 2026. Global GDP is expected to grow by more than US$28 trillion to US$122 trillion in the same period. Last year, global GDP fell by US$2.8 trillion, which was the largest year of peacetime output decline since the Great Depression.

The International Monetary Fund predicts that the United States and India will be the second and third largest contributors to global economic growth, and Japan and Germany will be in the top five.

The International Monetary Fund predicts that the global economy will grow by 6% this year and slow to 3% by 2026. The agency also warned that in the upcoming economic expansion, the distribution of economic growth may be uneven, and that developing economies are expected to suffer greater losses and slower recovery.

The International Monetary Fund stated in its World Economic Outlook report: “Affected by the epidemic, income inequality may increase significantly.” “Compared with the forecast before the epidemic, nearly 95 million people are expected to fall. To below the extreme poverty threshold."

China is the only major economy that will achieve positive growth in 2020, and the Chinese economy has been recovering rapidly. Since March last year, supported by loose financial and fiscal policies and flexible exports, China has recorded a real GDP growth of 2.3% in 2020.
